Festplatten in den Standby-Modus versetzen unter Ubuntu Desktop/Server mit hd-idle

Installation

  • Get source
$ wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/hd-idle/hd-idle-1.05.tgz
$ tar xvfz hd-idle*.tgz
  • Build deb-package
# apt-get install debhelper
# cd path/to/extracted/hd-idle
# dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot

The deb file is created within the higher directory!

  • Install it
# cd ..
# dpkg -i hd-idle_1.05_amd64.deb

Start hd-idle

  • Start hd-idle for all drives
# hd-idle

This will spin-down all HDD's after 10 Minutes of inactivity.

  • Start a specific drive
# hd-idle -i 0 -a sdg -i 600

-i 0 deactivate hd-idle for all drives
-a sdg activate hd-idle for all drives which have the string 'sdg' in their device names
-i 600 set time of inactivity for these drives

Instead of -a sdg you can use the UUID of the drive like this:

# hd-idle -i 0 -a /dev/disk/by-uuid/3a5d81b9-a6c7-4843-9413-b472799498cc -i 600

Stop hd-idle

# killall hd-idle

or

# /etc/init.d/hd-idle stop

Parameters to start hd-idle on boot time

Edit /etc/default/hd-idle and add these lines:

...
...
START_HD_IDLE=true
...
...
HD_IDLE_OPTS="-i 0 -a /dev/disk/by-uuid/3a5d81b9-a6c7-4843-9413-b472799498cc -i 600
